It is the only official language in 13 countries, all members of the International Organization of the Francophonie:

  • in Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Congo, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

It is one of the official languages of 16 other countries, all members of the OIF:
