Verbs in the reflexive (pronominal) form \u2192 se&#8230;&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>se coiffer, se lever, se mettre\u2026 (to do one&rsquo;s hair, to get up, to put on\u2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Elle s\u2019est coiff\u00e9e (She did her hair)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nous nous sommes lev\u00e9s(es) (We got up)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ils se sont mis au lit t\u00f4t (They went to bed early)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ALL<\/strong> verbs in the reflexive form!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. And a very small list of other verbs.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, to memorize this list, you can imagine a story using each of the verbs. It&rsquo;s always easier to memorize a list by putting them in a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And&#8230; that&rsquo;s why French teachers use a story (with movements, or with life, or with the hospital) to make their students memorize the list of verbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, what do students do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Forget the teacher&rsquo;s story very quickly&#8230;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To finally think that \u00ab\u00a0all movement verbs are used with to be\u00a0\u00bb.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/2rtQMJvhzOnRe\" width=\"480\" height=\"362\" frameBorder=\"0\" class=\"giphy-embed\" allowFullScreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, BEWARE, in this list of verbs that are conjugated with \u00ab\u00a0to be\u00a0\u00bb in compound tenses, some are sometimes conjugated with \u00ab\u00a0to have\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Argh!!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&rsquo;ll see about that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/learn-french-fun.com\/50verbes\/encart-the-50-verbs-most-used-by-the-french.php\" style=\"width:100%; height: 700px;\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">List of verbs that are conjugated with \u00ab\u00a0\u00eatre\u00a0\u00bb in the French compound tenses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;I repeat, this is a small list of verbs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">12 verbs are <strong>always<\/strong> conjugated with \u00ab\u00a0to be\u00a0\u00bb in compound tenses<br>+<br>6 verbs are conjugated <strong>either<\/strong> with \u00ab\u00a0to be\u00a0\u00bb <strong>or <\/strong>with \u00ab\u00a0to have\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means less than 20 verbs to memorize!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The 12 verbs that are always conjugated with \u00ab\u00a0to be\u00a0\u00bb in compound tenses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>aller<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>venir<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>arriver<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>partir<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>entrer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>na\u00eetre<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>mourir<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>rester<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>tomber<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>demeurer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>devenir<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>parvenir<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The 6 verbs that can be conjugated with \u00ab\u00a0\u00eatre\u00a0\u00bb or \u00ab\u00a0avoir\u00a0\u00bb in French compound tenses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&rsquo;s complicate the list a little more, we&rsquo;ll add the 6 verbs that can be conjugated with be or have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&rsquo;s see when we conjugate these verbs with \u00ab\u00a0avoir\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rule is very simple: <strong>is there a COD in the sentence?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>COD? Do you remember? As a general rule, they conjugate with \u00ab\u00a0to be\u00a0\u00bb; but, if there is a COD in the sentence, they conjugate with \u00ab\u00a0to have\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1<\/strong>. <strong>Je suis mont\u00e9 dans le train.<\/strong> (I got on the train.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 Is there a COD in the sentence? &#8230; <strong>No<\/strong>. So we use \u201cto be\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. J\u2019ai mont\u00e9 la valise dans le train.<\/strong> (I got the suitcase on the train.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 Is there a COD in the sentence? &#8230; <strong>Yes<\/strong> (the suitcase).
