You can use it in many situations, with verbs in all tenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u26a0\ufe0f Be careful, because very often students use the word <strong>pour <\/strong>instead of <strong>pendant<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-base-3-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ee97c0\"><strong>Pour <\/strong>expresses <strong>the goal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tous les jours, je travaillais pendant quatre heures sur mon projet.<\/strong><br>Every day, I worked for four hours on my project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>L&rsquo;an prochain, elle ira en Italie pendant six mois.<\/strong><br>Next year, she will go to Italy for six months.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Je peux regarder la mer pendant des heures.<\/strong><br>I can look at the sea for hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.learn-french-fun.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/05-pendant.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">French preposition of time: en<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>En<\/strong> is the most difficult preposition of duration to understand because of its particular use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, you know that the word <strong>en<\/strong> has multiple uses. It can be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A pronoun<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A preposition of time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A preposition of place<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, we are interested in the word <strong>en<\/strong> to indicate <strong>duration <\/strong>in French.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>En<\/strong> gives us <strong>additional information<\/strong> to the simple indication of duration, it clearly expresses that <strong>100% of the action of the verb has been performed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, what is the difference between these two sentences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anna a appris le fran\u00e7ais <strong>pendant <\/strong>six mois.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anna a appris le fran\u00e7ais <strong>en <\/strong>six mois.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.learn-french-fun.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/06-pendant-vs-en.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first sentence, we just know that Anna has learned French for six months. But what is her level of French? We don&rsquo;t know. Maybe she is A2, B1 or B2?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whereas in the second sentence, we always know that the duration of learning French lasted six months but we also know that <strong>she finished learning<\/strong>!
